Welcome to Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School

Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School is located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Canarsie. Students have the opportunity to attend the elementary academy for grades K to 4, and continue on to Escola de ensino médio incomum de Canarsie for grades 5 to 8 and an Uncommon high school for grades 9 to 12.

In August 2013, Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School opened to serve 58 students in Kindergarten. We now serve students in all grades from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

We are an elementary school serving grades K to 4. Scholars attend Uncommon Canarsie Middle School starting in grade 5.

To get our students through the long climb to college, Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School instills in our students the personal qualities they will need to succeed. Our students follow, and families are expected to support, the school's Code of Conduct. Students wear uniforms and are expected to uphold the school's Core Values.

Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School begins educating students about the importance of college from day one and continues doing so through college readiness activities found in middle and high school. The goal is for freshman year of college to become a natural extension of graduating from high school.

Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School develops its curriculum directly from the New York State Learning Standards that ensures students master a core set of basic academic skills before mastering higher-level material. We also use internally developed assessments to build a culture of continuous reflection and improvement.

Families ensure that their children arrive at school on time every day, in uniform, and ready to learn. Families check that students complete their homework each night.
