Welcome to Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School is located in Brooklyn. Students have the opportunity to attend Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School for grades 5 to 8, and to continue on to an Uncommon high school for grades 9 to 12.

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School opened in August 2013, providing Brownsville families with a full K-8 experience starting at Uncommon Brownsville South Elementary School.

Grades 5-8

We are a middle school serving grades 5 to 8. Scholars attend an Uncommon high school starting in 9th grade.

We provide all students with a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for college and beyond. We have a longer school day and school year to allow for more learning time, and provide after-school tutoring to ensure that all of our students meet our high academic expectations.

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School ensures that all students receive a well-rounded education that will prepare them for success in high school, as well as college and beyond.

Emphasis on College

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School begins educating students about the importance of college from day one and continues doing so through college readiness activities found in middle and high school. The goal is for freshman year of college to become a natural extension of graduating from high school.

To ensure that every student masters each and every standard, we provide students with a longer school day and longer year. We also provide homework help and after-school tutoring, Saturday School for students who need extra support, and double periods of English and Math daily.

Structure and Order

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School provides its students with a calm, safe, and orderly environment to maximize learning time. All students wear uniforms, and receive constant feedback for continuous academic and self-development.

Targeted Curriculum and Assessment

Uncommon Brownsville South Middle School develops its curriculum directly from the New York State Learning Standards that ensures students master a core set of basic academic skills before mastering higher-level material. We also use internally developed assessments to build a culture of continuous reflection and improvement.

Families ensure that their children arrive at school on time every day, in uniform, and ready to learn. Families check that students complete their homework each night.
