Located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg at 140 Montrose Ave., Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School opened in Fall 2023. Students have the opportunity to attend Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School for grades K to 4, and to continue on to Uncommon Williamsburg Middle School for grades 5 to 8 and Uncommon Charter High School for grades 9 to 12.
We provide all students with a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for college and beyond. We have a longer school day and school year to allow for more learning time, and provide after-school tutoring to ensure that all of our students meet our high academic expectations.

Ms. Bocachica began her career in education 13 years ago as an elementary school teacher for a DOE school in the Bronx. In 2013, Ms. Bocachica joined Uncommon Schools and founded Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School as a teacher and taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. She also served as an Instructional Coach and Principal Fellow. Most recently, Ms. Bocachica served as principal at Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School for 4 years and Excellence Girls for 1 year. As she enters her 6th year of principalship, she is eager to serve the students of Williamsburg in this new, exciting venture.
Hannah Herbert will be taking on the role of founding Director of Operations at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Ms. Herbert began her career in education 10 years ago as an English teacher with the Fulbright program in Turkey and Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta. In 2015, Ms. Herbert joined Uncommon Schools as an Office Manager at UBSE. After working at UBSE for 4 years, Hannah became the DOO at UCES. After spending 4 years with the Canarsie community, Ms. Herbert is now excited about the opportunity to make her mark as she helps found UWES.
Daniel Umana will be the founding Dean of Students at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Daniel is originally from the Washington, D.C. area but started his career in education as an elementary school teacher with Teach for America in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Umana then earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Education where he focused on elementary education. He has worked with schools across Ohio and Washington, DC, as a teacher, Dean of Students, and School Culture Specialist. As a first-generation college graduate, Mr. Umana values and understands the importance of influential teachers and is looking forward to helping establish a positive and productive school culture that promotes academic excellence, social-emotional wellness, and student achievement.
Delta Reyes will be the Special Projects Manager at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Since graduating from Hamilton College in 2020, Ms. Reyes has been working on the operations team at Uncommon Williamsburg Middle School, first as an Office Manager and then a Special Projects Coordinator. Building family relationships, executing joyful events for students, staff, and families, and getting to know students outside of the classroom are some of Ms. Reyes’ favorite parts of her role. At Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School, Ms. Reyes looks forward to connecting with a new community of students and bringing them peak moments throughout the school year, as well as developing her operations leadership and knowledge.
Raven Lubin will be taking on the role of founding Kindergarten Lead teacher at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Ms. Lubin began her career in education 5 years ago as a Kindergarten teacher in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Lubin is a Brooklyn native who graduated from New York City College of Technology. In 2022, Ms. Lubin joined Uncommon Schools as a Kindergarten teacher at Uncommon Excellence Girls School. After embracing the culture of Uncommon Schools, Ms. Lubin is now excited about embarking on the journey to guide scholars to and through college while founding UWES.
Lorri Whack will be a third-grade teacher this year at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Lorri received a B.S. in Education from Charleston Southern University and then went on to obtain a M. ED in Education and well as an M. ED in Educational Leadership. Lorri has been teaching elementary school for the past 17 years teaching second, third, fourth, and fifth grade writing. Lorri began her journey with Uncommon Schools five years ago teaching third grade at Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School. Lorri is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority INC. and loves to work with children in any capacity she can. Lorri has adopted the mindset that if I can make a difference in the life of one child then my life has purpose. “I enjoy what I do, however challenging it may be and as a teacher I know there will be many challenging days, but the rewards outweigh the challenges.” Lorri is excited to be joining the team at WES and thankful for another year to inspire our future leaders and allow them the chance to inspire her.
Claire Paulsen will be taking on the role of founding Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School. Claire joined Uncommon Schools as a Kindergarten teacher at UBNE after graduating from Dickinson College in 2017. At UBNE Claire taught Kindergarten, Second and Fourth grade and served as an instructional leader. Claire is so excited to transition to Uncommon Williamsburg Elementary School and meet all of the new UWES founding families and scholars.
