Begin your journey!
A Sisterhood of Excellence
At Uncommon Excellence Girls Elementary and Middle Schools (K-8), your child will feel the love and support of a school community dedicated to sisterhood. From day one, she’ll prepare for success in college and beyond. You’ll see her confidence and capability soar under the guidance of passionate teachers who believe she can do and be anything she dreams. Even more, every girl learns that her voice matters as she joins in lifting up her sister scholars.
Academics & Culture
Excellence in Academics
With a longer school day and school year, our scholars benefit from extra instructional time in academic foundations like reading, writing, and math – as well as joyful learning experiences throughout every day, including an array of enrichment and extracurriculars. Our scholars are guaranteed enrollment at an Uncommon high school, where students achieve a 96% college-acceptance rate across our network of schools.
Excellence in Character
Our school culture is where our sisterhood really shines. Within an affirming and connected community, girls learn to love themselves and encourage each other to be their best. Our school values – including sisterhood, courage, curiosity, and respect – are reflected in energetic cheers and weekly scholar highlights. As a result, your child will develop the confidence to navigate the journey to college and reach her goals.
Excellence in Teaching
Uncommon Excellence Girls Elementary and Middle Schools attract fiercely devoted teachers who go above and beyond to help our girls grow and achieve outstanding results. In turn, we are committed to helping our teachers and school leaders develop their craft, providing regular feedback and support as well as meaningful professional learning throughout each school year.

She began her time at Uncommon as a classroom teacher and instructional leader at Uncommon Canarsie Elementary School for 6 years, where she taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. She then went on to serve as a Principal Fellow at Uncommon Excellence Girls Elementary School for one year before stepping into the role as Principal.

Kim holds a B.A. in Psychology from Boston College and a M.A. in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education.
Principal, Uncommon Excellence Girls Middle School
Lenda Nguyen
Lenda is a passionate educator and leader who finds her greatest joy in working with middle school students.
Growing up, Lenda had a series of champions that shaped her roadmap to college and her work in education. First among them was her family, who immigrated to the United States when Lenda was four and emphasized education as the singular pathway for success. Lenda was also part of the first cohort of Rainier Scholars, which offers a pathway to college graduation and career success for underrepresented students of color.
As soon as Lenda stepped into a Brooklyn classroom through Teach for America, she knew this was where she belonged. Having taught and led in middle schools throughout her career, she is so grateful to have come full circle as the current principal of Uncommon Excellence Girls Middle School.

Partnering with Families
We value families as their child’s first teachers, and strive to partner with parents in ways that honor your important role. Our doors are always open, from welcoming parents into our schools to fostering consistent and clear communication with teachers. Don’t be surprised if you receive a text with a photo and update on your scholar’s progress! We also host a series of events throughout the school year aimed at building community with and among our families.
